Mariella De Fino is researcher in Building Technology and lecturer in Building Technology and Technology of Sustainable Buildings at the Polytechnic of Bari.
In 2008, she got a PhD degree in Building Engineering, discussing a dissertation on “Innovative techniques for monitoring historical buildings: fibre optic systems and laser vibrometry”. From 2009 till 2019, she worked as Post-Doc Scholar on “Diagnostics and control of high performance construction materials and components”, "Innovative solutions for energy retrofitting of Mediterranean historical buildings", “Development and validation of protocols for documentation, assessment and diagnosis of heritage architecture and sites by VR/AR immersive environments” at the Polytechnic of Bari.
She is also founding member of the university spin-off “B.Re.D. s.r.l.”
Her research interests are: non-destructive building diagnostics and monitoring, assessment methods and retrofitting solutions for energy efficient, sustainable and resilient built heritage, digital models and immersive environments for VR/AR based investigation and control of historic buildings.
She has cooperated with international institutes, including the Centre of Biomimetics, University of Reading, UK and the Laboratory of Smart Structures Technology, University of Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, USA.
She authored about 50 publications at national and international level.
