Alessandro Pagano is an Associate Professor in the field of Hydraulic Systems at the Polytechnic University of Bari starting from October 2024.
He has been working for over 10 years as a researcher for the Water Research Institute of the National Research Council (CNR-IRSA), in the field of sustainable water resources management. He has been using integrated models, based on both hydrological/hydraulic models and System Dynamics Modelling techniques, developing participatory and highly interdisciplinary approaches.
His main research interests relate to: i) Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystem Nexus approaches for sustainable resources management (with focus on irrigated systems in mediterranean areas); ii) vulnerability and resilience assessment of drinking water supply systems, with a focus on the impacts of extreme events; iii) design and implementation of adaptation and water-related risk reduction measures (in particular, Nature-based Solutions).
Has been involved - also as PI - in several recent EU (NAIAD, REXUS, LENSES, BIOTRAILS) and National (ERASMUS - PRIN) projects. He is author of more than 45 peer-reviewed papers in international journals.
